The People Who Inspire Me

1.) Lady Gaga: Honest, crazy, accepting, and true to herself, Lady Gaga has come to be the person that I can look up to, and aspire to be like, maybe not the superstar high fashion crazy part, but the part of her that embraces individuality, supports gay rights (whereas the people in my life who should, do not) and never backs down. And of course, you have her music, which is amazing.

2.) Ellen DeGeneres: Ellen is hilarious, witty, and fun. And she was forever on my mind when I was going through the tumultuous period of my life that is coming out. I would watch her show every day, and think, look how powerful, and wonderful, and loved, and successful she is, and she just happens to be gay. Ellen gave me, and still gives me the hope that my life as a gay person doesn’t have to be horrible and tough. Ellen is the sole person who made me realize that it does get better, and that life as an out gay, can be beautiful.

3.) Dan Savage: If only he had started this project a year earlier, then maybe I wouldn’t have been in as bad of a rut as I was when I was really coming to terms with my sexuality. Now, I’m not afraid to say “I’m queer and here” But for awhile I was deathly afraid of who I was, and thought something was wrong with me. Dan Savage and his “It Gets Better Project” have extinguished any thought that being gay equaled being less than, and that a gay life could be anything but happy. And for that I’m thankful. Also, he’s freaking hilarious, and his sex advice column is great.
